Carbon Footprint - The Biggest Environmental Issue
WHAT IS CARBON FOOTPRINT?
A carbon footprint is a way to measure greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases are gases such as carbon dioxide and methane that trap heat in the atmosphere and thereby contribute greatly to global warming.
As the industry continues to grow, people rely more and more on industrial supplies, and at the same time individuals have a growing carbon footprint, the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been almost entirely caused by human activity over the past 150 years. Since 1970, carbon dioxide emissions have increased by about 90% and reached a record 36.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide in 2019.
Our carbon footprint negatively impacts the environment in several ways: it is a major cause of human-induced climate change, contributes to urban air pollution, contributes to toxic acid rain, exacerbates coastal and ocean acidification, and exacerbates the melting of glaciers and polar ice.
How to reduce carbon emissions
Eat more local and seasonal produce in your food choices, limit meat consumption, and choose fish from sustainably caught. Also bring reusable shopping bags, make sure you only buy what you need to avoid waste, try swapping, borrowing, renting or buying used items, and buy responsible clothing such as those made from recycled materials or with eco-friendly Labeled clothing, riding a bike or using public transport, unplugging electronics when the battery is fully charged, and not letting your phone continue to charge are all little things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.
From now on, we can all do the little things like this so that our environment will get better and better.
